Several years ago, First UMC, Pittsburgh developed a guiding vision for our church which came out of several years of discernment. The Walking with the Poor team hopes to share God’s radical love on behalf of the congregation with all of our neighbors. Sharing God’s love requires that we get to know those with whom we are sharing that love.
Some of the areas in which we are already active are:
Circles Ministry – 2 locations in the Pittsburgh area help match families and volunteers who provide support as the family negotiates the difficulties of life. Contact: Tracey Horner tlhorner@hotmail.com
First Food and Friends – a Saturday lunch program for those in the neighborhood who lack food and/or company. Monique McCain is the executive director and welcomes hearing from you if you wish to have more information and or would like to volunteer. You may contact her at (412) 676.8925.
Bread for the World – a national advocacy program working toward ensuring food sufficiency for all of which we are a Covenant Church.
East End Cooperative Ministry – a local East End Ministry providing aid to low income residents. We provide them with some funds and from time-to-time engage in projects under their guidance. Currently we do not have a church member meeting with them regularly.
Members of First Church, Pittsburgh are actively looking forward to interact with others to bring healing to the brokenness that exists in our society. Contact:lisa.h.morse@gmail.com
