ST. PATRICK’S DAY BAKE SALE

Searching for that pot of gold?  The rainbow may not end here but you can still find a treasure!  The Chancel Choir will host a bake sale full of tasty treats (sorry no green beer!) during Fellowship Hour on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th.  Proceeds will help fill a choir “pot” which will help offset music expenses throughout the year.  We hope we get lucky and see you there! Thank you for your support!

DURING MARCH THE CHANCEL AND HANDBELL CHOIRS WILL HOST FELLOWSHIP HOUR

The Chancel Choir is made up of energetic volunteers who come together to sing a wide variety of musical styles from September through May.  Weekly rehearsals on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings allow flexibility for people with busy lifestyles to offer their musical gifts.  Opportunities for singers as well as instrumentalists are available.  In particular, a pianist to accompany the choir on select Sunday mornings would be most welcome!  The Handbell Choir rehearses on Sunday morning and aims to perform quarterly and for special events.  The music ministry at FUMC seeks to provide for deep worship moments and experiences.  Please see Tim Coles, Director of Music, for more information.

In addition to participating in Sunday morning worship services, the choirs present a Christmas Candlelight Concert and a Lenten Worship Concert.  This year, our sister church, Calvary UMC, will join us for a spring concert to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of our churches on Palm Sunday, April 14th at 3 p.m.  Please mark your calendar for this special event!

125th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION CONCERT

In 1893 the cornerstones for FUMC and Calvary UMC were laid. After 2 glorious buildings of worship were constructed services began again for Methodists in Pittsburgh. We are celebrating the 125th anniversary of the start of worship for us and our sister church, Calvary UMC. On Sunday, April 14th at 3:00 pm we will host a Worship Concert combining both choirs from the congregations. A new choral work, “Awake” was commissioned by a known composer and was written specifically for our 2 congregations. Please plan to come and celebrate with us through fellowship and exciting new original music as we remember our history and step into the future together!

GENERAL CONFERENCE DEBRIEFING SUNDAY, MARCH 24th – 2:00 pm

All are invited to attend this debriefing session, to engage with our Bishop, delegates, and your District Superintendent.  We continue our call to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The Western Pennsylvania A Way Forward Task Force, General Conference Delegation, Cabinet, and Bishop will conduct debriefing sessions in each of our ten districts.  The locations and times of those sessions are published on the Conference website. Persons may attend any of these sessions at any district if location and time are more convenient.

The purpose of the sessions will be for lay and clergy members of the United Methodist Church in Western Pennsylvania to hear accurate information about the decisions made at the Special Called Session of General Conference and the process we, as an annual conference, will undertake in order to implement the legislation that is passed.  Those who attend the debriefing sessions will have an opportunity to ask questions and respond to the decisions made.

The Pittsburgh District Debriefing will be Sunday, March 24th  at 2 pm at Salem UMC (350 Manor Rd, Wexford, PA 15090).  There is ample parking in the lot behind the church.  Beginning at 1:30 pm, light refreshments will be available.

MYSTICS IN MOTION: LET EVERYTHING YOU ARE PRAISE GOD!

WEDNESDAYS 7 pm

Worship Jam has changed its name! To align more deeply with our experiences on Wednesday evenings, we are now called “Mystics in Motion.” Our experience involves your whole self in worship. Each week, we take a verse or two from the lectionary readings of the week and explore it through interactive, multi-sensory, and playful ways. Mystics in Motion is a community that seeks and celebrates the spiritual essence of life through earth-based traditions, Christian mysticism, and scientific revelation. Please join us any Wednesday at 7pm in the chapel.
