February 10 – David Keller will lead a discussion using the book, The Death of Truth, by Michiko Kakutani. Obviously the book relates to the value of integrity and the commandment, “Thou shall not bear false witness.”
ALL CHURCH CHINESE DINNER – YEAR OF THE PIG
We will have our All Church dinner to celebrate Chinese New Year (It’s the Year of the Pig) on Sunday, February 17th, immediately after worship. Please consider signing up to help at the dinner. SPIRIT OF JUSTICE MUSEUM VISIT
The Spirit of Justice class will be visiting the “Cry, Baby” exhibit
at the Warhol museum on February 17, after the all-church Chinese
dinner. This exhibit, which features works by Devan Shimoyama, is
described in part as “[challenging] cliche with daring and personal
representations of the complexities of race and sexuality.” All are
invited to join, whether or not you’re a part of the Spirit of Justice

FIRST CHURCH VOLUNTEER TEAM FOR FIRST FOOD & FRIENDS
February is First Church’s month to volunteer at First Food & Friends, our weekly – every Saturday – meal ministry to anyone in need. (First Church has made a commitment to staff a volunteer team the fourth or fifth Saturday of every other month).
Please consider volunteering to be part of this ministry on Saturday, February 23rd. Come to Fellowship Hall at 9:00am. Clean-up is done by 1:00pm.

WRESTLING WITH RACISM
When They Call You a Terrorist – The Wrestling with Racism Team would like to encourage anyone who is interested in discussing the amazing book When They Call You a Terroristto join us for energetic conversation-filled sessions. The authors, Patrisse Khan-Cullors and Asha Bandele, are two of the co-founders of the Black Lives Matter movement. This four session study has been scheduled for 6 pm on March 11th and March 25th, April 8th and April 22nd at Warren United Methodist Church. Please order your own copy of the book. Perhaps you have heard something about the proposals which will be discussed during GC2019: The One Church Plan, The Traditionalist Plan, The Connectional Conference Plan, and others ….
Perhaps you have heard something about the Commission on A Way Forward’s deliberations regarding how the United Methodist Church will relate to LGBTQIA+ people in the future.
On February 13th at 7pm, Tracy Merrick will lead a First Church information session and group conversation regarding GC 2019 and the proposals which will be considered.
The gathering in the parlor is expected to last no more than 90 minutes. Light snacks will be provided.
